“Girls, come on over,” Sadie Dupuis beckons in the opening lines of her new stay-at-home anthem, “Ghost (of a Good Time).” In the video, the poet and songwriter wears a witchy costume, surrounded by candles and ghosts. “I’m too loath to twist and shout/RSVP to be not going out,” she adds.

At heart this album deals with grief and personal loss, but a sense of playfulness abounds. Ghosts proliferate – Ruby Wand ponders how strange it is when someone you once slept with dies. Most glorious of all is Ghost (of a Good Time), an anthem to staying in that is part fandango, part air-punching bop.

Sad13 Details The Ghosts And Gear Behind ‘Haunted Painting’
From the mischievous and prescient “Ghost (Of A Good Time)” to the sweeping, contemplative “Take Care,” this record finds Dupuis working towards what she’s previously described as her “most maximal” work yet. In part, Dupuis credits her mode of songwriting to the late David Berman, whom she noted was a master of walking the line between bouncy and bleak.
